The "Big" Awards

The Big East has announced winners for the major conference awards.

Players of the Year: Hasheem Thabeet, UConn and DeJuan Blair, Pitt

Take a look at each player's stats in their two match-ups this season:

Thabeet: 19 points (7-16 FG), 17 rebounds (6 offensive), 7 blocks
Blair: 30 points (14-26 FG), 31 rebounds (9 offensive), 4 blocks

I suppose it would make too much sense for their head to head results to be a tie breaker to avoid co-champions.

Rookie of the Year: Greg Monroe, Georgetown

What? No Kris Joseph? He had more personal fouls than field goals made in 11 games this season! You can't teach that!

Coach of the Year: Jay Wright, Villanova

How is it that Jay Wright has won Big East Coach of the Year twice in 8 years, yet Jim Boeheim has only won three times in 30 years? The people who decide these awards on a yearly basis must be idiots. That is the only explanation.
